The Importance of Gas Boiler Safety

Regular maintenance of your Gas Boiler goes far beyond an annual gas safety check.
Spotting early signs of possible wear and tear should be the responsibility of your Gas engineer, however, we at Mountain View Builders believe that even consumers should play their part to avoid unexpected costs, amendments and headaches.
Modern gas boilers have makeshift ways to keep your shower doing its job, the radiators hot and your tap flowing like it should. Technology goes hand in hand with electrical engineering to provide a wonderful partnership that # almost never fails. Plus, with the right Gas Engineer, you will have years of hassle-free heating and hot water whenever you need it.
However, modern technology and human engineering can fail, so here are some signs to look out for.
Intermittent water temperature via your kitchen or bathroom taps.
This is a pretty common issue especially with 'combi' boilers that fail to maintain pressure. A slow heat output, limescale buildup or faulty sensors via the circuit board. Fixes include checking boiler pressure gauge, calling a professional Gas Safe Engineer to descale or replace the heat exchange and rechecking the pressure gauge on your boiler is between 1 and 1.5 bar.
Noisy 'Kettling' sound
Resembling a whistling or rumbling kettle, this can be caused by limescale or residue buildup on the heat exchange. Which in turn restricts water flow causing it to boil. It is usually a sign of overheating and is best dealt with by a professional for a system flush.

Gurgling Noises
This could be a sign that your waste pipe isn't adjusted correctly. The waste pipe is usually at the base of the Gas Boiler and has a slight downward incline in order to dispel waste. It can also signify trapped air or a blocked condensate pipe. There are some possible fixes with this issue including bleeding radiators, thawing the external pipe with warm water or checking the system pressure.
There are a multitude of issues that can arise with your Gas Boiler, but with regular checks and maintenance, you'll have complete peace of mind!
